Brother Odd; Entry Two

Over Spring Break, I finished reading Odd Thomas. The book ended very sad. After Odd helped with the arrest of Harlo Landerson, Odd continues his day and goes to work at the Pico Mundo Grille (he's the fry cook). While he's there, Odd suspects a new customer. He has a bad feeling about this guy. Odd describes that he sees bodachs around the man, which are inky black spirits that always show up before something horrible and fatal happens. Usually one or two surround the soon-to-be victims or the person who will do wrong, but Odd sees 5, and then 10 of them around this man. When the man, who he calls Fungus Man because of his sickly dirty character, leaves, Odd sees a swarm of almost 30 bodachs follow him. This is a very, very horrible thing, meaning something very evil, very fatal, and very catastrophic. Odd suspects that the man will happen to be the one doing evil to others.
After the man leaves, and after Odd finishes his shift, he uses his sixth sense to locate where Fungus Man went. He tells us that he has an ability to focus on a person or place and drive there, not knowing where it is. He does this, borrowing his boss's car, and is brought to the shabbiest neighborhood in Pico Mundo, New Mexico. He sees no one, and still being extremely suspicious of Fungus Man, he enters the home. He realizes that inside, he cannot hear anything. He has the hollow feeling like when your ears pop.
The house is not only shabby outside but inside as well. There's garbage everywhere, and a very disgusting odor. odd finds adult magazines in the home, but also Romance Novels. This is Odd's first clue to the condition of Fungus Man's psychological health (He wonders if the man has Multiple personalities, considering the contrast in the styles of his books and magazines). Odd decides that he hasn't found anything so far, and taking his flashlight, goes upstairs. He finds a bedroom, a bathroom, and another, closed off room. The closed off room is absolutely pitch black, and unaffected by light. When Odd enters the room, he realizes he disappears. He feels weird, stuffy, and when he looks back at the door, he sees himself. Suddenly he finds himself in the living room again. Instantly he realizes this was a time portal. He was thrown back in time. Odd suddenly feels gloomy, "like death" he describes. He hides in time to see a swarm of 100 or more bodachs exit the house.
Odd goes back up into the room, which is now a clean, obsessively organized room with nothing but a desk, filing cabinets, and pictures of famous serial killers. Many famous killers and all their "accomplishments" are filed in the cabinets. One file, with the name Robert Robertson, is thin, and has only a blank check log for August 15. Which is two days away from now. Fungus Man is Robert Robertson, and he's going to attack on the 15th.
Odd decides to leave it alone, because he is very creeped out, and goes to have dinner with his fiancee, Stormy. After dinner, When Odd returns to his apartment, he find Robert dead in his bathtub.
To make a very, very long story short, Odd decides to get the body out of his home and brings it to an abandoned prostitution "club". He's left to wonder who the killer will be, if it is not Fungus Man/Robertson. He remembers his dream, and goes to the bowling alley which leads him to the mall. Here, he suspects the drama will unfold. And he was right. gunshot rang through the mall. The shooting left 49 injured and 19 dead. One of them being Stormy, although he doesn't realize she's gone until her ghost asks if she can move on now. I won't tell you who the actual killer is though. And you have to realize this is a very chopped and shortened version of the actual story. You'll just have to read it if you want to.
After i finished that, i Started reading Brother Odd, the sequel. So far all I know is that Odd went to live in the St. Bartholomew's Cathedral's Monastery as a guest, to help him adjust to his lost.
